The tip end has a fuse to allow connection close to the source of hazardous voltage so as to protect the user and/or the device located downstream from the source. That design reduces the risks of injury and/or damage due to accidental short circuits.
If the fuse blows, it can be replaced simply by unscrewing the Ø4mm tip end.
